Busy Bees of the Valley

Bees have gone home for winter. Will be back this Spring!

Our new bee exhibit is now open. It features a live beehive! The bees can come and go through a clear plexiglass tube connecting the hive to the outdoors.

A magnifying glass allows you a close peek inside the glass-paneled hive.

Bees are absolutely crucial for apple and fruit production. They pollinate the fruit blossoms without which there would be no fruit!

Did you know...?

There is only one queen in the hive and she is the mother of every other bee there.

There can be 20,000 to 40,000 bees in a hive and 98% of them are females.

There are almost 20,000 species of bees in the world and about 3,500 species live in the United States. Only a few make honey and only one species is used commercially.

Did you know that honey bees don’t use pollen to make honey? They use nectar. Bees drink the nectar and carry it to the hive in their stomach.
