Rich Kimura:
A TRIBUTE TO VALLEY FARMERS
ABOUT the ART: This art makes extravagant use of vintage Eastern Washington apple and pear box labels that are 65 -100 years old. It employs designs that draw from modular origami and cubist-futurist influences. The labels yield fireworks and kaleidoscope-like patterns. Image fragments and slices of landscapes, fruits, and orchards seem to want order and healing through radial and reflective symmetry and also repetition. Centerpiece image insets represent a yearning for peace, quiet pastures, and good fruit.
